The selfish giant
The Selfish Giant, Clio Barnard (2013)
The opening scene to The selfish Giant is watching the protagonist underneath his bed shouting and punching everything being out of control, His friend grabs his hand and is able to calm him down before they leave. At the end of the film when Swifty dies his brother tries to calm him down but gets angry instead, this shows that Swifty was the only one who has the patience for Arbour. The film is based is a poor part of the country , many of the people of the people are doing what they need to do to survive financially.
The themes of the film are friendship, living with crime, poverty, regret and death. The Selfish Giant shows that crime can start at a young age as both protagonists are both still going to school and stealing copper. in the film the The selfish giants are the adults as they are using the children or the children's possessions to make a living. the owner of the scrap yard is using the children to bring him copper to melt down, while Swiftys dad is selling the sofa even though the kids don''t have anywhere else to sit in their house. The house in the film is also a reference to Arbor as they are both only being used by adults to make money.
Josh in parts this is very insightful, going forward please ensure that the writing is cohesive that one paragraph follows on from another. Ensure when writing that your research is thorough. Check Clio Barnards IMDB to see if it was her first film. Remember CCCEO, how much have you used it here?
