Ralph lies to his friend Emily telling her that his mum is calling him to hide the embarrassment that Clare gave him the wrong number. Ralph has been waiting at the train station for a long time, he has been given the wrong number by late he has know way of getting in contact with her, he tries to replace the missing number but there are thousands of different combinations that could be possible. Ralph stands out in the crowds as he is wearing a bright red t-shirt and carrying round a huge suitcase.
As Ralph is leaving the train station the sounds you can hear resembles a busy French high street, there are French police sirens, motorbikes and french music using an accordion. The directer has done this on purpose as it makes you audience feel like they are there them selves and it also shows that Ralph doesn't belong.
